Hi Guys
Took my 4.5 Petrol on a load hauling trip of1100km to Sabie river via White River pulling dbl axle car trailer with 1000kg of compos.offloaded in W/River the loaded a tractor drawn tipper trailer on top of car trailer
+-1500kg...hauled that to the lodge of which the last 35kms is that horrible corrugated iron type of gravel..road .Offloaded the tractor trailer, then loaded a FJ75 cruiser on the trailer and hauled that back to Pretoria
My round trip I used 214l of fuel, which I think its fantastic ,and NEVER missed a beat
CANT WAIT FOR THE RIVER TRIP....!!

Dirk thanks for the GPS points thats really helpful.
Sorry to lower the tone of the conversation......Just one practical thought. There are about 35 vehicles and assuming 2 people per vehicle thats 70 people who can generate a pretty hefty amount of waste over 4 days. The garbage is easy. What you take in you take out.
But now the other kind of (human) waste...... Where is all that going to go? And if its 6 inches deep in river sand all that is going to get washed down the river a few months later when the rains come.........
The general rule is to do it about 70 metres from the river but in that area there are lots of villages. Burning the paper will help. An option is a sealable "poop tube" or a combination of brown bags in thick zip locks and take it home. Not so appealing but maybe we have to move with the times. I hear there are chemicals you can add which help - not too sure about those. Double frezer thickness ziplocks and put them in an old sealable tin or tuppaware.
Or maybe adult nappies!

Human waste = organic, biodegradable? Should not be any left after a few months?

So this is turned into a shitty thread
Yes we are going to be a rather large group this time around, but taking into account that in pervious years we were 3 groups of 20+ vehicles so in actual fact more than 60 vehicles in 3 consecutive weekends, the "impact" was even bigger.
All "normal" waste must either be burnt if possible or you remove it with you and this is not negotiable!!
As for number 1 and 2 - this we will leave behind, we will just have to try and make it so that we try and make it so that it does not become a -mine field- around the camp......
So please just walk that extra 50m further......
It has not been a problem before and I don't see it being one this time around.
We also try and camp as far away as possible from a settlement and it is possible to "do it" outside of the river bed depending on how steep the embankment is - usually not that steep.
