Re: Introduction: Rob Onematch
I started the studio in '83 in East London, and being a fairly small city, I did any photographic work that paid, and we still work like that today!
Obviously all the work was analogue - film, hand printing, developing etc., so the real challenge was the digital revolution, and I travelled to the US for quite a few years to various workshops to try to understand were things were headed.
So we now have a studio with a custom framing business, a copy shop, industrial embroidery, laser and hard point engraving, photobooks, branding, signage and a retail shop with gifting (putting images on mugs, puzzles, mousepads, fridge magnets, etc), and obviously digital printing on canvas and the traditional photolab prints.
I am trying to head slowly into retirement, but that is not working so well.
Jan and I love the bush and we also take a lot of wildlife photographs and landscapes - hopefully in a Patroletjie soon!
I do have access to the buying photographic equipment, but the online boys have sown that market up! - Oh I also have a old Magerius Deutz air cooled diesel generator to power the shop during load shedding.............
Hope that answers the questions!
