Welcome Bulldog

Very interesting read, especially as you are right about where i want my troll to be.

So some technical questions:
Is it a Td42t with uprated turbo or is it the non-factory turbo with a bolt on?
Which holset turbo is it? Hx40 or Hx35? Where di =d you get it and any specific reason for choosing that turbo. Do you know the size of the rear housing?

I have been itching to do this for a while and really don't want to end up with the wrong set up. I need something that will run dunes, pull a heavy van and not break. The td42t main party trick is not breaking... don't want too break it!!

Hi Biggles
Sorry the late reply I'm on holiday for a bit. Biggles it's a standard factory turbo tdi42. As with the turbo I'm not to clued up I know its got a .63AR and a 83mm Comp Exducer. To be quite honest it was between this turbo and a Garret which was double the price. I was assured this is a tough turbo used in the petrol racing circles able to boost close to 2.5bar and hold.
Just for interest I towed my 16foot deepV Acecraft down to the sea now, egt's post turbo going up hill at 100kph 460 to 480deg, water temp went to 95 rarely 100deg max going up hill. I laughed my dad commented "gee this thing pulls the boat at speeds I normally drive at empty", he was driving a hilux kzte.

THanks for the reply. As it happens a Garrett just landed in my lap:) My wifes X5 just did its turbo so for the cost of a recondition I get a garrett:) It is a variable vane... but it has very successfully been mounted on a td42t :blonde:

Hi Biggles

How are you planning to get the VNT part to work on the TD42 engine as the ECU usually controls this?
I have heard the Landrover guys like installing VNT turbo's as well, but have to get an aftermarket management system to get the turbo working

Hi guys just thought I'd post a short video of my truck acceleration from 120 to 1six0. I've done a few touch ups since then and streamlined a few boost lines and fiddled a bit. Please note its a safe an deserted road with no traffic as far as the eye can see.

Jip its got 33inc tires on, but the real acceleration is from 80 to 120 in 4th when over taking cars. I'll try make a vid when I'm near a tar road again.

Hi guys thought I'd just post my dyno run today at Protune in Uitenhage PE. I played a bit and tickled my truck up a bit and managed to kick out 193kw and 712nm!!!! Now to find a way to gain 7 extra kw to make the magical 200kw in a diesel.... well I could put my 31's back on as it's running 33 at the moment.
