Re: Please explain how the gearbox work on my tiptronic
Hi guys, a quick question here, I've never used an automatic off road before - with my 4.8 auto, if I'm descending a very steep slope, do I use the tiptronic to select 1st and will it keep it in 1st for the whole descent?

Re: Please explain how the gearbox work on my tiptronic
Hi Graham - yes it will.
The gear you select on Tiptronic is the highest it will change to ie if you select 3 then it uses 1,2 and top is 3. nIf you select 1, then it stays in 1!
By the way - there is a small and easy mod one can do to be able to continue using speed control when you click into Tipronic and visa versa....

I did the mod on my Patrol and it works well. Here is the file - pics and description (Hope it attached and you can read it). If not, give me your e-mail address and I will forward it to you.

Re: Please explain how the gearbox work on my tiptronic
I learnt about the lock up this weekend on a trail.
My previous Auto had less tc slippage than the Patrol so it was fine to just point and shoot in Auto.
With the Patrol I found that for any slippery surface you must go to manual.
It was a very interesting experience to just get stuck on a slippery hill and not go anywhere. once I engaged 2nd gear I made a lot more progress and in first gear just idled up a steep slippery gravel hill.
lesson learnt.
