Lesotho Sanipas

Hi Carel

Re: Lesotho Sanipas
Carel, Sani Pass is a lekker drive, depending on if they have graded the road recently or not. but it will take at least an hour to get to the top with a few pit stops along the way to take some nice photos.
Last time we were there we went from Himeville to Mokotlong. That trip took us from about 10:00am till about 6pm. The Chinese were busy with the road and it was a little rough in places, but they may have progressed quite far with this by now. From Mokotlong to Afriski took a few hours with decent road conditions, and then from Afriski down to Oxbow and out at Caledonspoort was good roads.
So in my opinion I would take 2 days to do this. One day up Sani and sleep over at Mokotlong Hotel. The hotel was quite cheap and food there was pretty decent too. The bar was next to the dining hall, so it felt like being at a school dormitory....hahaha, but they made us feel VERY welcome, and the locals were quite friendly. The drive from the main road in towards Mokotlong hotel was ....ummmm....well .... a little concerning, as in SA one would not want to be on that road, but we drove through without any issues. Then the second day leave early and drive to Afriski and take a bum board ride down the slope.... Ask Wimpie, a six foot twenty five meter tall boytjie from Lichtenburg how much fun that is, and have a few Gluhwein glasses to warm your bones up. Then leave Afriski at about 3-4pm and drive out to Calidonspoort or Fouriesburg and back to JHB, or take a drive up to the Park Hotel in Bethlehem. This is a great low cost hotel that has a lot of sentimental value to quite a few of the club guys on the last 2 trips we went on to Lesotho.
Hope this helps
