Richtersveld April 2015

Post by Marino4x4 »

Hi

I booked a trip to the |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park for April this year. Our itinerary is:

25 Apr depart from Bloem - Keimoes
26 Apr Springbok
27 Apr Potjiespraam
28 Apr Kokerbookloof
29-30 Apr De Hoop
1 May Springbok
2 May Groblershoop
3 May Bloem

Are there any info or advice for the park. I will hate it to come back and realize we missed something. We will be traveling with our now 10 month old daughter (she will be just over a year then). I have read a few trip reports on this forum and some other forums. It is one of those places I always wanted to see.

Thanks

I would change the Kokerboomkloof & De Hoop bookings around .. Pootjiespram and De Hoop is on same side of park [on the banks of the Gariep [Orange river] Kokerboomkloof is wayyyyy out towards Terror Mountain [rather bad road corrugated like ERG]
From Kokerboom you exit the park through Hels Kloof and at the De Koe exit [right there by the boom gate on the gravel road .. ]
Just driving to Kokerboom Kloof is almost a full day [depending on your mode of transport .. deflate to 1 bar .. max 1,2 bar for that road] Go light, don't overload]

You can do Kokerboomkloof to Groblershoop in one day [unless you have family in Springbok]

In Keimoes -- MOENIE DI EKeimos Padstal mis nie [Do not miss the Keimoes Padstal .. [and the Water Wheel .. ]

Vra maar as daar nog iets is .. Baie lekker B&B tussen Alexanderbaai en Richterspark is SPOGPLAAS B&B Annemarie / Salome: 027 8311592 // 082 223 8455.

Dont miss out the Hand of God rock between PootjiesPram en De Hoop
Stand in awe of Mount Terror on the way to KokerboomKloof

Just keep in mind that this place is arrid and Hot. You need to be fully self sufficient. The local park shop is far and they are only stocking basics. Taking into account your young daughter. Everything she could need, you will need to take. As well as lots of water. Roads are poor so travel is at a very slow pace. Then there is the spider, scorpion, snake and monkey/baboon factor also.

If you can look over the mining activities, the park is beautifull. So enjoy
Being alive is a Blessing!!

Regards,
Joshua

Dankie oom Mac.

Bernard .. daar is n klompie plekke waar 'k noggie was nie

Daar is kosbare inligting in
