SAFETY ADVICE PLEASE

Post by Pieter du Toit »

Hello Forum lede

Groetnis
Pieter du Toit

Pieter,

Beste tyd is Februarie/Maart.

Ditti on what Bogeyman said.... I felt safer in Ponta than is Sodwana and Kozi Bay. In Ponta you will walk in the market where you will feel as safe as a Zim Dollar lying on a sidewalk...... hahaha. Don't flash cash around and invite trouble, but I have even sent my kids into the market to go buy odds and ends, and haggle a better price !!

Ponta is a bit noisy and wild this time of year, so either you in for the party or you won't really like it.

But I think Sodies will also be pumping like mad....

Enjoy the trip and have a 2M beer for me if you do visit Ponta

Got back from Ponta 2 days ago, I visit there often.
S Moz is as safe, if not safer than anywhere in ZA.
Currently due to holidays border opens 0600 and close 1800.
You need to buy your car insurance (like 3rd party) at the border or in Manguzi (where I normaaly get) at he petrol station as you exit the town on way to border.
I would suggest go to Ponta camping area for a swim in the bay and walking to the point and on the beach etc. Can have a R&R at Fernandos in the local market.
Then drive up to Ponta Malagane (apprx 7kms), then drive further in a northerly direction for about 5kms until you come to an old tar road. Turn right to Ponta MAmoli - there is a hotel there on beach and you can have lunch or drinks around teh pool. They charge an entranvce fee at te gate.
Then continue back along the tar road (pot holed so badly you spend more time driving off the road), for approx 10 kms until you get to Zitundo (the local administrative capital), there keep left with the Zitudo lake in teh distance on the left.
Follow the sand road to the border. appx 15kms, and exit back to ZA.
Rather slow driving conditions, but a nice drive anyway.
CAll me if you need more info.
