From a 7 seater to a 2 seater!

Post by Craig Lord » 12 Jun 2019 12:32

Hi guys

Thought I'd share the latest DIY mod that I've just done to the patrol. The Mrs and I are really the only people who travel in the car so we decided to make some extra room and removed the passenger seats.

I then set about making a removable rubberized floor so that the passenger footwell would be level with the rest of the floor. I added some tie down points for our fridges and now we have easy access to them through the passenger doors, no need for any fridge slides now. The auxiliary battery box will sit between the fridges so that we can have easy access to it and the power points, I will add tie down points for it when it arrives.

The unit is supported underneath by 45mm x 70mm planks and it can take all 97kg of my carcass without budging so its satisfactorily strong. It is covered in rubber floor mats that I bought for next to nothing from Mr Price Sport and it secured into place by a heavy duty ratchet that hooks onto the original seat attachment points so it cant shift or bounce while on the move. The whole things weighs in at 13.6kg so not bad I think.

There is also quite alot of storage space under the unit in the passenger footwell for soft things and anything that wont rattle.
I then used the left over rubber mats to cover the carpet in the back. We can now also sleep comfortably in the vehicle if the fridges are removed. I did a test run this morning and it took me about half an hour to remove the floor and put the passenger seats back in so it can be done if we need to.

Quite happy with the result and we have a trip around bots coming up in November so we will be able to test it and work out any issues after.

Ps sorry the pictures aren't in order but you get the idea haha

Cheers

I did "almost" the same, but I split the board into 2 pieces wich means I can add a single seat should there be a third passanger...

Thanks guys  craftmanship isn't something to shake a stick at but I reckon it will serve its purpose just fine. Dirk I like your idea of splitting the platform in half to have the option of putting at least one seat in, maybe something to consider for the future
