GQ Bonnet Gas Struts
I enjoyed the gas struts on the GU bonnet very much, felt so fancy between Hiluxes and Fords. So I tried to research how to do it on a GQ and found very little or outdated unavailable posts.
So I tried my luck and believe it worked quite well.
Parts aquired from Canopy Center Silverton
Parts:
2/ Gasarm (4048) Extended Lenth 650mm 4048K 400Nm
2/ Mounting Bracket-90 Degree 50x35x3mm
4/ End Fitting Balljoint
2/ Mounting Bracket-D/Crank H/Duty 66x29
8/Large gead 5mm Pop Rivits
Tools:
5mm Drill
Pop Rivit Gun
20 Minutes
Total Cost R550
I do not like pop rivets but did not see any other way. If they fail I will just weld the brackets on and touch up the paint. I have bought 250ml from Silverton Autobody and paint for R260 to get ahead of a few potential rust spots.
Tips:
Do the diver side of the vehicle first.
Install the bases first to the main body
Let someone lift up te bonnet as high as possible then mark the bonnet side, GQ bonnets lift up much higher than the standard arm that is suppose to keep it open.

Go the RIV NUT way Bru .. really, coz if you weld them you can never replace them when they wear out ..
6mm m10 Riv nut will be more than sufficient.

Re: GQ Bonnet Gas Struts
Yes, I agree, Riv nuts is a great invention.
I used them for Skilpad's steel snorkel.
As regards the idea of gas struts for the GQ bonnet, thank you for your contribution on this Tijmen.
I have been wondering about this since gradually converting from GU to GQ.
I will definitely consider this at some point for Skilpad.
