DIY rear bumper build
So after seeing that one of the plastic corners on my Patrol rear bumper were loose and removing it, I couldn't stop.
Eventually ending with a naked Patrol in the rear.
Now I have decided to build my own steel bumper with decent recovery point for all sorts of other 4x4's
The following pictures are of the template I made of cardboard to see if my measurements are correct.
Now I have sent these templates to a engineering shop who will cut those nice blue pieces out off a 20mm mild steel plate.
Waiting to get them back and start fabrication off bumper.

hahahaha.....
Take measurements off all your templates please, I also want to build my own rear bumper ( well for the Iron Maiden I mean ). I like the challenge of doing this and enjoy tinkering around with this kind of thing!!

Danie
Will you only be replacing the plastic corners or the whole bumper.
In my case I replaced the corners only and I retained the alluminium bit in the middle.
It is much lighter that way, but you also get to keep the cross bar that protects your main tank in the event of the a rear impact bumper bash.
Also, it is mostly the corners that gets in the way when navigating rocks. The rear is protected by the cross bar and tow bar.

Re: DIY rear bumper build
The original towbar in the picture is going to stay, will just shorten it to be closer to body and improve departure angle.
Those blue cardboard brackets will also be welded to a 12mm flatbar going to under chassis and bolt to same place as towbar.
So the recovery point will be bolted on the side off chassis with two 16mm bolts and two 12mm bolts through the chassis on the bottom.
The rest off the bumper will just be for cosmetics and the steel will not be that thick the important bits are those recovery points.
Ricster, I will happily give you a copy off that template if all works out well.
iandvl, laat ons eers sien wat uitkom, dalk hou jy nie daarvan nie.
