Paintshield
So as I am going on the River trip with the community guys, and from previos years foto's not wanting to "pinstripe" the Troll I was looking at some paint protection.
VPS and R16,000 is a bit out of my league; Plasti dip does not have a "clear cote" that I could find.
So I got a hold of this stuff - Paintshield, you can spray it on, use roller or paintbrush at it is supposed to create a clear coat that will protect against scratches.
It took forever to give the Troll 2 coats with a paint brush
It does not look very nice up close but ok I did not really expect it to do using a paint brush.
It does however look like it will do what it advertise as it covered the Troll in a thick layer of plastic so to speak.
Now I just hope that it will peel off as they promised otherwise I see a loooooooong cleaning process awaiting me.
Will report back on effectiveness and eezzz of taking off.

Re: Paintshield
Ric - did the two complete sides of the Patrol however as it turns translusant and with the cellphone one can not really "see" the little condom, will however keep it on for Bass Lake.
Kagiso - Cost was R340 for the paintshield and R130 overnight courier as I was in a hurry to get before the weekend.

Re: Paintshield
I use a similar product for work applications. The one i use is a latex, goes on white and then clears up as it cures. Peeling off is pretty easy on most surfaces except rough surfaces.
Looks like a good idea dude. In my opinion VPS is ridiculously expensive.

Re: Paintshield
This looks like a bargain compared to even Plasti-dip (approx R3800 to do entire vehicle)!
Did you do a test to see how easy to peel off?
Where did you get it?

Please dont play on my fears of spending 2 weeks cleaning the Troll did not test just pulled a Nike on itChris Skinner wrote:Did you do a test to see how easy to peel off? Where did you get it?
The company is in CT so had to orded it online and it was delivered at home via courier.
As for Plasti-dip - this has to be removed after 2 months according to the instructions, but will liase with them as my vehicle is 99% parked in the garage and for a period of two months it might be outside for a max of 5 days.

Re: Paintshield
Ok, so I am back from the "river Trip" and acording to me the Paint Shield did exactly what it was supposed to do, and I am very happy with the protection it provided.
We drove through some bushes and a lot of reeds etc, and the Paitshield took all the scratches without tearing so I am pretty sure I did not get any scratches on the Troll.
Planning on keeping it on till after Bass lake so will only then be able to see how easy it will be to remove.
Hav'nt had a chance to wash yet, will do that over the weekend.
This was a really bad scratch on the Troll and would definately have left a mark on the paint itself.

Re: Paintshield
As for the trip itself it was a blast and definately planning on doing it again, but it would actually be excelent if it was a group of people one knows and not a lot of strangers.
There was plenty of sand driving ( my first time and was a new experience and took some getting used to) some mud and water and some nice rocky sections.
