emergency comms...
Hi guys...
Advice please!
I am looking for an emergency comms solution.
I am often in remote places by myself, this is not ideal & not recommended, but it is just a part of my job.
I generally do try to leave a trail of breadcrumbs of where I'm going with home, the office & locals along the way, but much of what I do is talking to locals & following leads that sometimes turn out to be wild goose chases.
So I'm looking for something that is for emergency situations, not for chatting.
My knowledge is very limited on this subject so please type slowly...
Thanks in advance!
JP

Re: emergency comms...
Jp you can get a vhf radio but is only going to help if there is one in the area and on the same channel.....
Go for one of the old fashioned sat phones on a prepaid .
You need to make a call when you are in destress to a telephone ....give someone your coordinates goolgle it a bit. ..afaik there are very fancy ones out there but if you stick to basic calls and sms you should be fine .

Just a thought - but for reach all over the world a Satelite Phone is, in my opinion just the best option.
To buy or rent ?? You have to work that one out by yerself [tax benefits?? Angh 'azzi ]

Re: emergency comms...
Here is another possibility a friend of mine used in Australia: SPOT personal trackers
It worked: he got stuck with his car around a big sea which suddenly started to rise and put his car and him into danger.
I (being one of there reference persons) was called by SPOT and they queried wether I know where my friend is right now and if I am aware of any dangerous situation he could be in.
They immediately sent help to my friend and recovered him and the car.
But the service obviously costs some money.

Re: emergency comms...
I've seen a "cover" thats clips onto an iPhone that makes your iPhone into a SAT Phone. I cannot recall who makes it, weather its apple or not, but for me that seemed amazing. Has all the benifits of SAT phone but just clip on. Includes built in arial and everything.
Cannot comment on how it is billed but that can be researched easily once you find the supplier.
