Koos, I plan to do a similar article here as well as soon as the new forum structure is sorted out, but in the meantime, look at this thread.

Shoot if you have any further questions.

Thx Eric, a well informed piece of thread .
One more question, can you have marine band and cb together on the radio.

Herrie, het jy krag geneem vanaf die leesliggies?. Die bril kassie by my werk anyway nie, want geen van my brille pas daar in nie.

Koos, the GX300 can handle all the local 29MHz frequencies (4x4 & Marine) as well as the 9 legal 27MHz channels. You would require a licence for the 27MHz CB frequencies and also the 4x4/Marine frequencies. You should then also use either an Antenna change-over switch to select either the 27MHz or 29MHz antenna, or use two separate antennas. Use of one antenna only for the two bands is not recommended as it can damage the radio and will degrade the signal.

Koos ek het nog nie die krag permanent gekoppel nie - gebruik nog die sigaret-liighter socket - maar jy het 'n goeie idee daar beet.

Eric, just to clear something can I get the 4x4 @ marine channel on 1 antenna.
All I need is to have comms with buddies vehicles in convoy on holidays, is the 4x4 channel the right one, we dont need cb channels ?
The marine channel I know well.
Where is the best place to purchase the gx 300 radios.I read the ICASA bit and will apply for licence .

Koos, you will only require one antenna for both the 29MHz Marine Channels as well as the 29MHz 4x4 channels. You would not normally require the 27MHz CB channels at all, very few people are using it.

The radio could be programmed for the three Marine channels as well as the three 4x4 frequencies, no problem.
