Re: Roof rack, which Roof Rack?
I suspect everybody who overlands with a roof rack has over-loaded it at some point.
I know I have, by a significant margin. I am not entirely sure what factors are used to calculate the dynamic roof load, but I do think they are very conservative.
What the insurance implications are, I don't know.

Re: Roof rack, which Roof Rack?
Hi Kyle.
I'm looking to replace my small nonPatrol Outback rack with a full size rack that won't let my Hannibal awning hang on the gutter or brackets, or be too low for the doors to open. Looks like the rack you got from Bigcountry is nice and wide. I have a 4.5 GU, so not same as your 4.8, but it would still help me if you could answer a few questions about dimensions for me please.
1) Does the rack overhang the brackets? (It looks like it from your photos.)
2) If so, how far from the gutter does the rack extend beyond the side of the car?
3) How high (i.e. tall) is the rim bar that runs around the perimeter of the rack? I think mine is 4.5 or 5 cm. (I need to know if my awning will clamp directly onto the rack.)
4) What is the distance between the top of the gutter lip and the *bottom* of the rim bar that runs the perimeter of the rack?
Thanks!
