Rock slider steps
In this thread: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=8307
a couple of people indicated a wish for drop-down steps to make vehicle access for short people easier.
So I came up with this, which fits in my standard rock sliders. When retracted, it is completely inside the channel.
This particular version is spring-loaded, but the spring will hold it in either the open or closed position. This means that it must be opened by hand before use, and then closed again before tackling an obstacle. However, I might be able to do an electrical version using a starter solenoid or similar.
It is a self-contained unit, so can be retrofitted. It can also be reversed.

Re: Rock slider steps
Looks like a good idea Peter, I have recently been thinking of a non-slip option on the rock sliders on mine as I have slipped of them when my feet are wet and my ankle doesn't like it anymore. In your opinion how would they stand up to catching a jutted rock or something? Obviously as a worst case scenario..

Re: Rock slider steps
Rhett, have you tried skate-board tape?
I don't know, but I suspect they could be damaged in such a situation, but it shouldn't be too difficult to repair. I might fiddle the design to ensure that it just rips the step off, without damaging anything else, to make it easier to repair.

Re: Rock slider steps
Go to any hardware shop, they sell the non slip tape that you can stick on, works great, have it on my sliders and rear ladder.Rhett wrote: ↑27 Mar 2019 16:59 Looks like a good idea Peter, I have recently been thinking of a non-slip option on the rock sliders on mine as I have slipped of them when my feet are wet and my ankle doesn't like it anymore.
