Patrol rear off road bumper options
At this years Rust de Winter Jamboree my Patrol had a disagreement with a boulder during the decent. There were a few in fact.
The other side is a little bit better but not by much.
I toyed with the idea of fixing the bumper and a member of the forum even donated a set that I can clean up and respray. But I suspect I'l just rip the bumper off the first chance I get. I also considered building one but I just don't have the time.
What good options for a rear off road replacement bumper are available in travelling distance from Centurion? Read that as I can't pickle down to Cape Town for a Burnco bumper.

Re: Patrol rear off road bumper options
Good question
I would also like to know as I really want to get the spare wheel off the barn door...
Michael once mentioned BJC or something like that..
Not sure if they are doing a rear bumper though?

BZT. And they do make one.
Looks best of the lot, but some guys have had issues with quality, which I guess is to be expected at the price.

Re: Patrol rear off road bumper options
The BZT looks good, but it is also expensive, but probably not as much as the others. Their web site indicates R14 500 (I'm not sure if it is fitted for that price), and that is without the spare wheel carrier. Ideally I also want to move the spare wheel off the rear door.
It does look very good so it is so far the only option available.
Question, is the rear replacement bumper for the facelift the same as for my GU? BZT only shows a rear bumper for the facelift version, 2005 and up.
Edit: I looked at summit4x4 for the price. I'm not sure if BZT has its own web site.

Re: Patrol rear off road bumper options
I have a close look at various makes and am still convinced the BURNCO is the best design of the lot for toughness and long lasting PLUS Hein buids his bumpers with a "dip" beneath the spare wheel. Thus I can carry my 33 M/T tire on the barn door where.

Hi Paul.
BZT, se agterste bumper het hulle al die kwaliteit probleme gesort. Jy sal nie jammer wees nie. Regtig sterk en sinlik ook. Die swingarms is ook goed vervaardig.

Re: Patrol rear off road bumper options
I made a 3mm steel plate and bolted it to the chassis under the rear bumper. It is 1,350mm wide and about 350mm long with a kink (for torsional strength) at about 200mm (in the length). The edges at the back and sides are "folded" upwards to facilitate sliding off rocks etc easier. I then had it plated to prevent rust and to improve looks.
It fits underneath from about 15mm behind the fuel tank and protrudes about 20mm beyond the end of the bumper. It bolts to the chassis in 5 place with seven 12mm diameter HT bolts. It weighs 18kg.
One slight disadvantage is that it does pick up stones up to about the size of marbles when driving on dirt roads. It does not bother me, and I wash them out with a hosepipe when I get back home.

Re: Patrol rear off road bumper options
Thanks Tommie.
I had a chat with Wilco at Summit 4x4 about the BZT. We'll have to talk a little bit more about my discount, but so far I like the bumper. I'm still indecisive about the swing arm. I want it, but its another almost R6k. I'm waiting for the damage to be repaired so I have some time for contemplation.
