Does this one need to use the valve caps as indicated in the picture (ie: is the valve cap part of the design?)

Ther eason i ask is because i have heard stories of certain models having the caps ripped off when deflated and driving over rough terrain. Also, and more likely, here in CT even your plastic valve caps get stolen, its pathetic. So how does one deal with this if you have fancy shiny Alu units?

I would love to have one of these monitors.

It is a normal. Valve and valve cap just a steel stem
The sender is inside the rim and even the inner valve parts are standard
The only way to loose the sender is to loose your hole weel

My friend maruis will have about 12 uints again in 3 weeks time max
I am very happy with both the one on my hilux and patrol never thought my tires will go to 68 deg when carrying a load gives a person piece of mind to know what is happening at all times with your takkies

Last week I asked the local branch of TWT to quote on installing my TPMS sensors. They thought it good to charge me R400 for installation and another R175 for balancing. I then got a much better quote through Tinus, but in Centurion and thus a round trip of 100km.

I have long wandered what I would do if I got a puncture requireing a tire to be removed from the rim, and decided that this was the ideal opportunity to make myself a bead-breaker. This clips onto my front bumper:

It took about two hours to make from material already lying around in my garage.

I then started by installing the first sensor in what had been the spare wheel (I rotate it in every 10k km, and it was about time).

This is what the valve looks like:

Basically it is a standard metal-stem valve with an attachment at the bottom for the sensor, cosisting of a flat section and a tapped hole. It takes a standard valve (the internals), uses standard caps and works with standard deflators.

The screw is a bit special, it in nylon coated to prevent it from rattling loose and has a hole through the length.

So far I am dead happy. The unit responds quickly and seems to be pretty accurate. Seeing how the temperature and pressure respnds to your driving is also very interesting!
