Driver's seat back problem

Post by Onematch »

Hi Guys,

I have had two back operations due to a slipped disc (trying to lift an engine in 1978 coursed the initial prob.).

Generally not much issues until a did a road trip in my new/ old Patrol 2007 4,8, and I ended up with major sciatica in my left leg needing a couple of anti inflams injections etc.

Obviously the seat has gone a bit soft, so the support is not there - I was at the car upholsterers this morning, and they said the foam maybe had softened over the years and they could replace it, but no guarantees.

Any thoughts from forum members - can I get new foam insets from Nissan - any advice appreciated.

My Disco 3 has slightly higher, and much firmer seats, plus good lumber support low down, and I can drive all day with no issues.

The Patrol is my retirement car to do trips into Southern Africa - but not with this problem!

Cheers,

Rob.

Hi Rob

Good question. Also prone to backpain whilst driving. However, the Troll seats in my 2007 GU are some of the BEST seats for lumber support I've ever had.

But saying that, after 12 years, I have noticed the support on the right hand side of the drivers seat saging and was considering refurbishing options as well.

JP would like to know more ... who did it, how much, did you have to have the whole seat/s recovered.

Thank you
John

It was Clive's Auto trimmers in Fordsburg

I took them the seat & it took 3 days.

There was no leather work needed just the HDFoam.

Cost R550 if memory serves, but that was a few years ago.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I have been to the motor trimmer and she is seeing if Nissan can supply new foam, given her the VIN number and she has already come back to check if it is the electric seat and has a side airbag- not holding my breath though.

I think the high density foam with perhaps a bit more lumbar support is the next step - or a cushion you buy online for driving.

But I love the vehicle and am not going to give up easily.

My 2011 has a adjustable lumbar support. I cannot recall if my GU I had that option.

Maybe see if you can get a GUII seat?
