Is your Nissan affected by dangerous airbag safety recall?

Nissan South Africa has issued a safety recall for several local models to resolve a Takata airbag issue.

The automaker says: "Customer safety has always been our first priority, as a result we’re replacing airbags in Nissan vehicles built between 2001 - 2013 at no extra cost."

Is your car affected?

To see if you’re affected, you can enter your VIN number at Nissan's website or alternatively make a stop at one of the Nissan dealerships.

Hallo Karl

Thanks for that info / reminder.

There were already a number of posts regarding this recall in the past on this forum.
I number of forum members had subsequently an airbag change on there Patrols done in line with the safety recall. When i had my VIN number checked with the dealership I was told that my car does not form part of this safety recall.
Now I checked my VIN number again via the link which you provided and the Nissan website confirmed now that my vehicle is indeed affected and that I should get in contact with Nissan and/or a Nissan Dealership.
So... I phoned Nissan and it was confirmed once more, that my vehicle is indeed affected by the recall action.
However they are currently only doing the Nevaras and Levinas. The Patrols will be done at a later state;
and I do not have to worry as it is only a precautionary measure and there is no recorded incident.

I said to the Nissan lady that:

1) it is disturbing that the dealership has initially confirmed that my car is not affected by this safety recall and now I am learning that this information was incorrect.
2) it is equally disturbing that she confirms that there are no recorded incident and it is only a precautionary measure; A quick Google search reveals that there where hundreds of incidents with 22 recorded deaths and 230 recorded injuries.
3) It is not acceptable not to be able to confirm a time frame in which the Patrols will be fixed...say from ... (for example) in 2018 or in 2019 we will do the Patrols.... well knowing that some of the Patrols have been done already.

The lady promissed to come back to me after consulting her supervisor.

So .... lets see

Henning, have they got back to you? And perhaps you could message me the number / contact of the person who confirmed yours needs to be done?

I was told mine does not need to be recalled - but the website says otherwise.

Hallo Rhett

No, the lady at the call center did not come back to me as promised.
So , I phoned in again (today) ... now the same lady said that she send a mail to Japan with no reply yet ....as a reason for not coming back to me..??
I asked to speak to the supervisor in charge of this recall campaign.
After telling him the background he promised me to find out and phone back shortly .
This he did; He confirmed that parts have been ordered in Japan; he also confirmed that one of his team members will phone me and give me weekly updates on the shipments + arrange repair date as soon as the parts become available in South Africa.
The number at Nissan SA which I contacted was as per the link which Karl provided (0800647726)
:salute:

Received the call just now to have airbag inflator replaced. Very friendly lady. Asked where I would like it done and offered to make the booking.
No idea how they traced the 12 year old Patrol back to my cell.

Will see how it goes but impressed

I'm not sure if this had to do with the facelift but I need to contact someone who knows whats going on. I have been to two Nissan dealers and they say they don't have my VIN on the recall list.

Rhett, my 2004 4.8 is on the list. Nissan also phoned me earlier this week. I'm now waiting for the local Nissan dealership to contact me with confirmation of the date.

I have a 2007 patrol 3.0 DI and was contacted by a Nissan dealer to say they have my passenger airbag in stock and they will fit this next week which will take about 40 minutes.
I am impressed by their service, just hope the replacement is good as there is no way to do a physical check!,
