I notice that Patrols are included in the UK recall due to faulty airbags?!!
I wonder if my old nagging airbag light had any relation to this recall? hmmmmmm

Hi there
Has anyone of the forum gone and had their Patrols check for this airbag defect?

It affects about 500 000 Nissan's worldwide, including X-Trail, Patrol, Almera, Almera Tino, Terrano II and Navara.
The cars were sold in the years 2000-04, and the firms said the defective part was supplied by parts maker Takata Corp.

It also affects the following cars for interest sake:
Toyota vehicles, including Corolla and Yaris,
Honda's, most of them CRV's, but including 400 Jazz and Civic models.

All four car makers have said that they will replace the defective parts for free.
"We are conducting a voluntary safety recall to address this issue and replace the front passenger bag inflator," a spokesperson for Nissan told the BBC.

Good morning

I received my recall letter in June this year. Last month I took it to Nissan in Centurion.
They didn't look at the vehicle and only used the vin number.
They said they will order the part and when it arrives they will make an appointment to replace it.
The passenger airbag was replaced yesterday. I was there at 7h00 and they were done by 11h00.

Regards
Johan

WONDER NET ?

I got so tired of my airbag light that I had the bulb taken out.
But since i is also a 2004 model, I wonder?

Must one wait for the letter, or can one just make an appointment with a dealer?

Hi Alex

I only saw Cedrics post; I did not get a notification letter.

I phoned Nissan... Menlyn; told them the story; gave them my VIN Number which they did not have on their system;
After some arguing they reconfirmed with Nissan SA that my car indeed exists and that it is one of the cars which is subject to the airbag recall. They called me back after 10 min and made an appointment with me for next week.

Back to your question.... No a notification letter does not seam to be necessary.
It is also the question if all current owners (and their addresses ) are actually known to Nissan SA.
So... you might never get such a letter :oldtimer:

Only came across this thread now....

What Picasso is saying is very important and I know for a fact that Nissan SA does not have my Patrol linked to my name. I have never taken it to a dealer so there is no way they will be sending me a letter.

What's a person with my situation supposed to do? I know most Patrol owners are in the same boat as I am?
Do I phone my nearest Nissan dealer and ask them to check?
