Petrol Boiling in extreme heat conditions

I had this happen to my Nissan Sani with aux tank AND the Pastor's Mazda B bakkie up in Savuti ..
The culprit was the exhaust running too close to the fuel tank .. on the nylon Nissan tanks this never was a problem, but the steel fuel tanks gets too hot with teh exhozt & gearbox heat inderneath the vehicle when drivin gin he3avy sand on a hot day and you never get above 30 KPH ..
I scavanged aluminium heat shelad off a BMW in the scrap yard, placed it between exhozt and fuel tank .. end of sheizz.

Valves & that have nada to do with this -- just, as Clem states, heatsheild between exhoz and the tank ..

Back in the early 90's we were travelling through the Karoo, weather report had a big red dot. The road was littered with cars, Mercs, BMW's etc all ran out of fuel! We had a StarWagon and lifted the front chairs to cool and drove at 40km/h. Around 40C at night.

So nevermind boiling what about evaporation?

My Saga with the petrol fumes/boiling continues ...... At the end of last year Nissan replaced the 2 fuel check valves (sub and main tank) as they were not opening at the right pressure. When I was on a trip to the Richtersveld and Kgalagadi in early December the petrol started boiling/bubbling out of the subtank through the filler cap (tightened) in temperatures of around 34 + - and that on a flat level !! Even after I opened the cap it still flowed out of the tank with a bubbling sound - although the petrol did feel hot but not to the point of boiling. I then decided this is it and drove my Patrol all the way up from Hermanus to Graham. Lo and behold - Nissan fitted the subtank's fuel check valve upside down/wrong way around - and while it is at Graham he must have a thourough check of all Nissans other work .... or not

I am going to Kgalagadi again 20 Feb for about 10 days or so and will see what the verdict is then - must say I am hugely impressed by Grahams knowledge and assistance so far.

Here in the desert in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, we will easily reach ambient temperatures during the day of 50+ degree C in summer, the highest I have seen was during summer last year, a blistering 61.7 degree C from our weather station at the airport, our vehicles here are all according to UAE spec and we do not have bubling petrol problems that I know of.
Do not know if there is something hidden in the "UAE Spec" that prevents this.

All I know is you do not want leather seats in this heat,

Adriaan, I can still handle heat of up to 40 degrees C - over that and it gets hectic - I couldn't even imagine what 60 degrees C must feel like

We had 42 deg & plus in Caprivi and along Delta past two weeks .. the Landrammel diesel [2,4 ] had toe drop pace a lot to keep the engine from boiling.
But the diesel did not boil
