Good day all and happy holidays!
Recently moved some stuff around my garage and discovered that two of my stored BFG KO2's had a chunk of rubber taken out of them. I had MT's put on in July and stored the BFG's in my garage without seeing the damage back then. Will be contacting the tyre shop on Monday, but they'll obviously deny doing the damage, however it's pretty obvious a tool of some sorts did the damage as the tyres are dirty and the two areas where the rubber was removed is clean (new rubber). Plus I would have seen this if it was there before (extremely pedantic....I even remove stones from my tread every day:)
I know sidewall damage is not repairable, however the rubber missing here is not through to the inner structure, so wondering if someone's had a similar experience and fixed it? These tyres are still pretty new, so a real bummer if they have to be chucked out.

Re: Tyre sidewall damage
I have sidewall damage on my left front tyre from picking a less than optimal line at Piesangkloof a while ago. Damage is more or less in the middle of the profile. There is no damage to the plies, but rather the decorative outer surface where it used to say 'Bridgestone Dueller' prominently in white. Even the nice, white writing has worn off in the meantime. I have done a bunch of trip since then - including a ~6500km trip through Namibia on some very bad tracks.
I have driven the vehicle to the end of those tyres' lives and I will be replacing the tyres early in January. I have not had an issue, but I inspect the spot regularly.
That said, I worry about how near that damage in your photo is to the beading. And I think you may battle with getting the tyre to bead properly, or suffer with slow leaks etc.
Good luck, let us know how it pans out.

Re: Tyre sidewall damage
I am not a tire expert, but I doubt that is serious. I would fill the holes with Pratley Wanda-fix, just to ensure the metal structure is sealed from the atmosphere though.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Re: Tyre sidewall damage

Jammer jy is so ver, anders het ek daai amper nuwe een by jou gevat. Ek het 4 amper nuwes op my Patrol en soek een vir 'n spaar. My is 265/70 x 17s
