Supplier sent me email yesterday afternoon (eventually), to say that compressor is a 45L/min. Now I don't know. Either that picture, or my brain, is not seeing the same size article. Just about any dual head compressor I have seen in any store, is virtually the same size, and fairly close to the same output. But 45L is is hardly in line with a a single head.

BUT, this has made me think that with 35's, you need a lot of air. And that if you employ 2 compressors with a tank, you get a lot of air, and you have some redundancy/backup. So if one of them fail, you are not totally stranded. My last compressor is laying here, minus it's motor. It ate up it's brushes, and I can't find replacements. I was hoping that one day I can figure a different motor, or build brushes, or.......  ... Nawww stuff it, too much work..

Then I have this old aircon compressor laying in the garage, and have I have also wondered about using it. But then you have to feed it some oil, and fit a separator on the outlet to take it back out. Then I have this spare output on my transfer case, which I have also wondered what I could do with it. But can you imagine what that poor compressor under the car will go through with my history of water and mud oopsies

And 15min duration time is an indication of its duty cycle. It will be something like 75% duty cycle. 15min won't get 4 x 35s from 0.8 to 2bar, I'm almost sure of that.
There is a joke here somewhere......... :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

I can't help but agree with you david, this is way out of my field of expertise

But to add to some weird ideas to the mix, I've got a old scuba tank - 3000psi - that might come in handy. I had converted an old 2kg fire extinguisher to inflate my mountain bike tyres - but you need to concentrate, as you can explode a bicycle tyre in an instant with the amount of pressure. I am sure with 3000psi you can inflate 4x35's in a very short time...I just don't know how many times.

Filling it with air at your nearest Afrox is also quite cheap.

I had a quick look where I got my extinguisher tank idea from years ago. It was from the powertank website. I see from their website that you could inflate a 35inch tyre with 1.3bar (thus 0.8 to 2.1bar) in 38 seconds. That will rebead a tyre for sure as well.

If I am not mistaken I believe they use CO2 and not air because CO2 expands even more when released.

Yes indeed.
You do get C02 at afrox. Or anyplace your refill your CO2 welder from.

But I believe I have hi-jacked this thread. Sorry guys

What do you think it would cost per refil?

I unfortunately don't know, depends on size of bottle obviously - should be cheaper than gas. N$250 - N$350 possibly? My bottle for the bicycle is very small and lasts a long time (years).

Just a cautionary note guys.
A cylinder of gas at 200 bar is a seriously powerful bomb!

I have seen a 1/4" NPT plug (effectively a.short 12mm bolt) shoot through a sheetmetal factory roof and that was only propelled by 150 bar...

If you want to do this, make sure it can't get bashed and take it for inspections regularly!

Remember, it has a thjck base so that corrosion doesn't affect the wall thickness, but in a car it would probably be mounted on it's side.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

I actually did a rough calc on the how many times you can fill from a cylinder question when the thread started , but decided not to post it but here goes. I had double flat Tyre situation many years ago but luckily had my diving kit and adapter , changed the one with the spare , fitted snot plugs and (it was a cut ) filled the tire nearly every 20 minutes all the way from Vryheid to Alberton, it is quick.

so on a 5l you will get 4 fills for 33" from 1 to 3 bar - 1 set
and on a 10l you will get 8 fills - i.e. 2 xsets of tyres
cylinder pumped to 200bar

Volume based on 33" 285 as full cylinder =120l - tyre should be less than that
