MAXXIS BIGHORN TYRES
Lots of people rave about price! After sales service, stock, mileage something to think about?

Re: MAXXIS BIGHORN TYRES
About two years ago Maxxis bighorns 265/75/16 or similar were being sold for about R850-00. Now two years later they are double that. Something not right here i thinks.
A dam good tyre but but but. There have been ballancing problems as well, but they might have got that right by now. I like the tyre ..

Re: MAXXIS BIGHORN TYRES
nothing I have had comes close! The exchange rate killed the pricing at one stage. Neither BF or STT is as good offroad. This is my own experience not hearsay. Go look at the pricing of other manufacturers

I like them to but the speed rating of 140km is a bit to low.

Re: MAXXIS BIGHORN TYRES
Very happy with my set (33x12.5x15).
Awesome traction off-road, and reasonable on-road manners as well. My only question mark is milage. I estimate that mine will be dead by about 60k kms (possibly earlier), so not sure how that stacks up against other brands? It`ll be interesting to see how durable the new BFG muddies are, as I could be tempted to go that route next time, as they`re also a very attractive looking tyre.

Re: MAXXIS BIGHORN TYRES
My Maxxis bighorns are great. Very happy with them on my Patrol. I have had no problems. Done about 20K km and only used 5mm of the tread. The new tires have 16mm tread. I've done sand, rock, mud and dirt. Some real heavy off roading and they impressed me every time. Grip like glue. Very strong side wall and good if dropped to about 1.2 bar. The Patrol is heavy and I don't want to pop a tire in the mountain.
Availability of BF Mud terrains Mk2 is bad. No one knows why. Getting 285/75/16 Bighorns are also difficult. I'll go for Maxxis again, next time 'round!

Re: MAXXIS BIGHORN TYRES
Tjaart (and other Maxxis tyre users)
Has anybody put a set of 305/70/16 on their Patrol?? I saw a range Rover today with a set of these on - and it looks AWESOME!!!
I have always wanted to go with a bigger tyre - but everybody says I should drop to 15 inch rims and then go bigger - or alternatively just go one size up which will be 285/70/16. I currently have Cooper STT (265/70/16) on and must be honest are also very happy with them - on and off road and mileage - but hell they are VERY PRICY!!! I have not had one puncture or problem - and have done some serious mountain trails as well as dune trails - has gone down as low as 0.8bar in sand with not a hinch of a problem!!!! Did the whole Richtersveld and West Coast Diamond Route Dec last year covered about 4300 km home and back - not a single puncture between 12 tyres (we where 2 families with trailors ) on the road!!!
But I preferably do not want to drop down to 15 inch - I bought a complete set of additional Patrol mags (same as mine) last year (got them for a mo*rse bargain) - and changed the rims on my conquerer conquest trailor plus spare wheel to 16 inch Patrol mags - now I have three spare wheels between my trailor and Patrol when on overlanding trips!!! Very nice - especially when you go to Botswana or Mozambique or these other remote parts of our country - and going there Dec 2010.
But these 305 Maxxis do come in a 16 inch rim size.....I am just not sure if they will fit the Patrol?? Or is that too big??? And if I could do it - would it be necessary to change the trailor's tyres as well - or not??
Any words of wisdom from the more experienced here please will be greatly appreciated
PS: Who are the stockists of the Maxxis tyres???

Re: MAXXIS BIGHORN TYRES
Hi Pieter. Stay with Cooper STT's even if they are more pricy, I had STT's and then changed to maxxis. I am running maxxis bighorn's at the moment and they are ok but wont get the mileage! Sidewall is not great and rocks punish them! A 305/70/16 will fit perfect, i would go for a 285/75/16 more popular size. As the saying goes "goedkoop is duurkoop" or something like that.

Re: MAXXIS BIGHORN TYRES
G-Man,
Alweer tipies SLAAPSTAD wil dit my voorkom.
