Electronic ignition for TB42
Does anybody have any knowledge regarding the Petronix electronic ignition system for the 4.2 GQ?
We burnt the flamethrower coil on the Petronix system. This coil is recommended with the conversation. The coil was burnt by leaving the ignition switched on. We replaced the coil with a Huco electronic coil but it popped on the way back from Hennops last weekend.
So if somebody knows this system, please help, Robbie needs his Patrol mobile and reliable again
Thanks

Re: Electronic ignition for TB42
Is the resistor installed?
But my TB42 was pretty heavy on coils too. Used to keep a spare in the car...
For me the most reliable was Nissan factory, with the factory resistor also installed. And make ure it's installed somewhere relatively cool.

Re: Electronic ignition for TB42
There's no resistor installed on it. From the You tube clip that I watched, it looks to have a straight 12V connection. But that was with the flamethrower coil which looks to be specific equipment to this system

Re: Electronic ignition for TB42
buy the coil and resistor pack. Fit it using the resistor.

Re: Electronic ignition for TB42
I think that flamethrower coil is made to work from 12V. I'll wire the resistor back into the system

Re: Electronic ignition for TB42
The resistor is in series with the coil, so it doesn't change the voltage, it changes the amperage, reducing the heat load.

Re: Electronic ignition for TB42
Is anyone familiar with the Gigatech or MrCarman electronic ignition systems?
I see these ones dont actually replace the points like the pertronix does and they are a lot cheaper...
"This is actually more like a mechanical electronic ignition.
What it does is it uses the points only to switch several milli-amps and the milli-amp circuit switches the main circuit by means of an electronic switch.
So your points can never burn again and you cannot get a spark over the points."

Re: Electronic ignition for TB42
I don't know it, but it sounds to me like it misses out on one of the major advantages of the Pertronix, which is improved timing accuracy with a somewhat-worn distributor.
