Instrument cluster backlights issue
Hi guys,
The backlighting on my instrument cluster is being weird - it only works when I turn the headlight switch to park lights, but, as soon as I turn the switch on all the way to normal driving lights, the instrument lights go off. They only work with the park lights.
I am a little worried that this is the result of a mouse that chowed all sorts of dashboard material about two years back in botswana though, even though this issue is only showing up in the past week or so though. The radio and speakers have also developed an odd gremlin in the past two months.
Thanks!

Re: Instrument cluster backlights issue
Hmmmm.... other than pulling the dash gauge cluster out to give it a look over and wiggle the plugs around which is what I think might be the problem with mine (different problem to yours), Anthony Forgey might be your best bet to have a look at the electrickery in there

Ya, I have actually been thinking about getting it to Anthony for him to breath over the whole car and fix and tidy things up a bit, its slowly but surely starting to get a bit tatty now.

sometimes the little tabs in the indicator stalk get out of whack and the lights do strange things. Was it working normally before?

Interesting. Yes, It was working before. Actually about a year ago it played up once, but then it fixed itself. Seems it doesnt want to fix itself again this time though.Anthony Forgey wrote: ↑27 Feb 2019 19:37Hi Grahamgraham1 wrote: ↑26 Feb 2019 14:15 Hi guys,

talking of indicators, I swear the ticking noise has gotten alot softer too, can barely hear that the indicator is on now.

Re: Instrument cluster backlights issue
My gq’s dashboard lights does not work. Instrument cluster is fine thought.
Does not seem like there’s a fuse for this?
Any suggestions?

Re: Instrument cluster backlights issue
There should be some very small incandescent bulbs behind the heater panel. Best to dig around your model's service manual to find out how to replace them, or see if you can find a helpful thread on the "Oz" Patrol forum.
The bulbs in the switches are not serviceable items (Nissan would gladly sell you a new switch, though!), but if you have a lot of patience you can dismantle the switches and replace their bulbs too.
I replaced the heater panel's bulbs as well as the bulbs in the switches (hazard/demister/aircon/recirc) of my Y61 with LEDs while I was on leave in December using this thread to guide me along.

Re: Instrument cluster backlights issue
The temp switch for the fan/heater unit also doesn’t work. Always running on max cold setting regardless of position of switch.
Which made me wonder if it could be an (easier) option to replace the heater control unit with a second hand one (Depending on availability though....)
