Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

So, the Turbonator (tinus to those who are not familiar with his other forum name ) got a newer steering wheel to replace his old one that was poofie.

The new one has an airbag. The airbag units work on a clock spring which is basically a ribbon of wire which is coiled up under the steering wheel and connects your hooter, airbag and steering wheel controls to the wiring harness but still allows for the steering wheel to turn without tangling the wires.

The clock spring was broken which meant the hooter didn't work. Fortunately the ribbon had broken right on the end where it connects to the plug.

I stripped the tiny wires back a little, tinned the plug and the wires and soldered then together. My soldering iron tip is so blunt, so it was a bit tricky, but i managed to get it right. I only soldered three of the wires because they were the only three needed.
Unfortunately I didn"t take any other photos of the repair.

Once soldered, I used the hot glue gun to glue and seal over the soldered joint on both sides. I put the clock spring back in its housing and tested for continuity. It worked.



Next day it was installed in Tinus' bakkie. He appeared to be happy because i could hear him still hooting in Centurion and I was already home in Randburg

Yo Mr Forgey .. Oompie needs advice / Assist to get proper sound in iNyathi to use during J esus Film outreaches - mostly out in the open [the JBL is o k for inside but outside not so hot [or cool ???]

High frequencies are very directional, so using the car's system will never be ideal. You'll probably find that the vocals will be very muddy (sounds like speaking through a thick blanket)
I can take a look at what you have and make some recommendations though...
Ideally you'd need a little PA system....(by the way,... JBL produce some of the greatest PA systems in the world )
an immediate improvement would simply be turning down the bass and the treble so that the mid range frequencies play the loudest (that's most of the frequencies of the human voice) Then turn the treble up incrementally till the vocals are most discernable.
