Re: Glow Plug Issues
Andre,
I agree with Cedric as I also only use Delo 400 and change it religiously every 5000 km. After 400 k km my Troll runs very well (ask Cedric ) and uses no oil between services. It has got expensive as I have an extended sump and also an additional front mounted engine oil cooler and I need to get around 13 lt of oil every 5000 km.
I got a spare oil pump for my Troll but all the mechanical checks that SAC do on the current oil pump confirm it is still in spec. Not sure how my Trolls engine would run with a synthetic oil - needs a little cholesterol in the blood .

Re: Glow Plug Issues
Hmmm, gents now I don't know! Who will be able to tell us with superior knowledge and certainty if what I'm doing and using is in fact looking for trouble or the complete opposite?

Re: Glow Plug Issues
sadly..... nobody..... it all comes down to what works for you and how comfortable you are with that product. I'd guess MOST good name brand oils are fine for our vehicles. Some have this "extra" additive and some have something else, but they all will do the job that is required of it. Don't stress. I know a LOT of people that swear by Delo 400, and some that swear by shell Helix. I do avoid "high Mileage" oils as in my opinion that will make a sludgy buildup that I don't want.
Regards
Cedric

Re: Glow Plug Issues
There is a way to play it safe:
Have an oil analysis done one what comes out after your service. If the oil is not doing the job, there will be wear that will show up as metal in the oil. It might also be able to tell if there is excessive blow-by.
Also, I would be inclined to do a compression check?
