Nissan wants about R7000-00 +vat. Breno can get me one out of Capetown for R2000-00. I just found a guy in Kempton that can replace the armature for R680-00 and I can pick it up in 2 hours time.

Will keep you updated.

And so my starter said good bye and good night....

Yesterday with the Patrol fully loaded with everyone to go out for the day, it just would not start, only made the clicking noise when i wanted to start it.
So got out the old voltmeter, battery ok,power on to solenoid of starter, ok.
So, off came the starter and voila, it was broken, look exactly like the posted pics. The copper stripps all ripped to pieces. So there went the whole sunday trip.

I run started it this morning(had to shower after that) and took it to my friend in Strand. He owns a Auto Electrical shop now for many years.

Order me a brand new one, fitted it and it starts up as always everytime...

If any of you guys get the same problem, give him a call. I spoke to him and he said he will post it anywhere in the country for the guys and to those in cape town, just get it to him and he will fix it.

He said it all depends on what he gets it for, but it will cost between R1600-R1900. I paid R1600 including fitting, I thought it to be a good price. He could also send it away for fixing but that cost about R700 and can take up to a week to get it back.

So any one need some help on the starter or any other electrical work i highly recomend him. He has been working om my cars for past 8 years (even sorted my Mercs out for me).

Just be carefull - I found that the problem is actually in the ignition. On our way to Vanzylsrus the starter kicked in while I was driving - new starter m#*rtoe! It is a reduction geared starter so just imagine the speed it did when the engine was doing 2500rpm :surprised:

Luckely I had the old starter reconditioned and took it with. I put the old starter back and put a switch on the soleniod so that I can switch of the power to the starter after the engine has started. Still trying to get a new ignition!
