Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Hi guys,

So I bought a stock standrard 2006 4.8GRX Patrol (except for winch behind factory bumper). I decided it needed a 2” (50mm) OME lift before I even brought her home.

Since Im planning on fitting a roofrack, I tow a camping trailer, as well as adding a bullbar to go with the winch I opted for the 971 front and 981 rear coils which are the heavier duty coils. They did the suspension and they fitted the swaybar extension kit.

When I got the vehicle back they informed me the front lifted 60mm and the back lifted 90mm!!!! Im not too worried about the front as the bullbar is coming on next week but the back has me worried as I read often on the forum that going over 50mm causes new problems like castor corrections etc.

The fitment center (4x4 Megaworld Zambesi) said it lifted more than expected because the stock suspension was worn out so the “before” reading was not really a stock reading.

Should I be worried? What can I be on the lookout for? Are there other “modifications” like the swaybar extension that I should consider?

I doubt you need to be particularly worried.

The rear end doesn't get caster correction, it only gets extended sway bar brackets, which you say are already fitted, and an extension bracket for the brake bias valve.

The sway bar extention brackets only really come in one size, and should not be longer than about 50mm otherwise the sway bar cannot reach the fully-compressed position.

If a bias valve extention bracket is fitted, I am sure it is fine, if not, you can easily make one yourself, but all it means is that, until you fit one, you will have a bit less of the bracking affort going to the back wheels than you could.

Attached are the standard distances. Remember to not measure into the coil spring retainers so look at the instructions carefully.

It looks like you are running std tyres??

That would also make the "gap" look bigger...

I had a similar experience. I fitted the terrain tamer coils which ought to be similar in height.
Afterwards the front was very similar but the back was lifted by 70mm. But the values now were close to the ones in the attachment above.
So obviously the old coils sagged so much that the difference is just huge.

You meant to say that 35's are better

Agree, chances are that the original coils have sagged a bit and you had a greater than 2" lift from where it was before.
Looking from the pic the lift looks fine....... I will not worry about it
