When I bought the vehicle it already had a leaky steering box. It seems to be getting worse.

The steering play is good and the steering function is fine, its just leaky. I imagine there's an o ring or gasket seal under the lock ring that's knackered. Is it that simple? anyone fixed this before? tips?

Yip, there's an o-ring.

Looks like you can just remove the nut assembly and replace the o-ring

There should also be a copper washer there.

based on advice from steering repair shop in randburg:

1 x copper washer and some teflon tape and 5 minutes of work to fit
