I note the comments. However a careful look at the difference between the battery cradle mounted on my 2001 and the 2013 shows up glaring differences.
2001 cradle shape is different in that it has cross-pieces which cover the threaded bolt holes on the wheel arch. Fastened without rubber mounts directly onto the wheelarch.
2013 is square with no cross pieces and the fitter just drilled holes through teh wheelarch. Bad fitting.

Re: Metal fatigue
Was the 2001 model's second battery cradle part of what the Nissan factory fitted, or after market?
On my 2004 model (Witblits - now sold), the second battery's cradle had to be built from scratch. There was nothing there.

Re: Metal fatigue
No idea. Bought vehicle second hand after the engine had "granaded". I assume aftermarket as with the 2013.

Re: Metal fatigue
I think that answers it.
It would be aftermarket in both cases
Your 2001 model enjoyed a better quality after market service to fit the second battery.

Re: Metal fatigue
On those very rare patrols I have seen that came from the factory with dual batteries, the two cradles, left and right, look identical.
They alxo had 24v electrical systems.

Re: Metal fatigue
On my GQ a previous owner installed a second battery and it tore the wheel arch quite badly, I repaired it since.
Also behind the driver door panel next to the handle some of the sheet metal has started to tear like a coke can, will fix that soon.
