I did my rims with plastidip about 15 months ago - since then 3 times to Moz and towing on really bad roads/dunes/beach - still looks great...
Definitely recommend... but would use a newer product called flexi-dip - its a product made by Rust-o-Leum and sold in the spray can section at Builders.
I did my bumpers and wheel arches and grill with it and it seems a bit more forgiving and easier to apply.

I did a post and some pictures of how to do it - go to following link:
Very easy - clean well, mask tyre with cards as in the pictures, and go for it... light coats initially and then heavier. Give at least 5-6 good coats... more layers the better. Avoid running paint. Do it a well ventilated area as the fumes are not good for you

Re: Side-Steps, Old-School Panel-Beating and Plastidip...
Hi Ian, how many cans of plastidip did you need to do the two steps? one? or two?iandvl wrote:So, as I've mentioned previously, my side-steps seemed to be a little worse for wear - especially post-Bridgestone challenge. Not only were the steps (depicted below) a little beaten up, but the brackets attaching them to the body also looked a little rough when I removed them.
So, after removing them, I started by stripping off the old paint on the brackets, and refinishing them with a few coats of Hammerite. They look almost brand-new now.
Next step was performing some old-school panel beating and removing the dings from the aluminium and quite a few coats of plastidip.
Finally, refitted - they look almost too new for the truck.
I'm unsure as to how well the plasti-dip will wear on the steps, as they normally get trodden on quite a bit by the kids. I am, however, very happy with the end results. Hopefully the dip will last until such time as I upgrade to a set of rocksliders. :)
I also want to make mine black.... (will replace them later with sliders).

If I recall coorrectly, I used two tins. Was a while back though. Paint slowly, with compressor, in thin layers. Frustrating (a bit), as it takes a while to get the item looking the way you want it, but you cannot rush perfection. :)SJC wrote: Hi Ian, how many cans of plastidip did you need to do the two steps? one? or two?
