Heater ....

Post by AndriesS »

The last couple of days I notice the faint smell of hot anitfreeze. Happens with aircon on or off, recirculation of and fan speed at 1. It dissapears when I open the window or crank the fan speed way up and or increase the heat. No serious drop in water level yet but liek they say where there is smoke...

I have a feeling my heater matrix might be on the way out, any one else had similar issues on their 2005+ models?

Good day AndriesS ! About your coolant/antifreeze smell . So far , you have caught it early . If the leak is in the cab , get it fixed as soon as possible , as the coolant will run down into the underfelt of the carpet and cause musty smell and later on RUSTY floor boards ! You can bypass the heaters at the motor or firewall , but remember to close off one of the pipes to prevent hot water circulation/overheating . carry a bottle of radiator sealer , just in case the leak suddenly gets worse ! I think one of the steel pipes going to the heater may be rusted . I hope you can fix it without hassles ! good luck ! Cheers for now ! BRETT .
