reupholstering a Patrol.
Hello Gents,
I want to refurbish my Patrol in December, and I am seriously considering to put a insulation material under the carper, a la Dirk ORB.
But the door panels have also seen better days, the carpet is pretty worn and the seats have numerous venting holes. The panels in the doors are in a bad shape
A number of guys on this forum has mentioned that they recovered their seats in leather, one is IanT. Do you need to specify any type of leather, what is best? What is the total damage to the wallet.
Apart from Leathertek (who nowadays only do repairs) there is very few place mentioned on the forum. Coenie from Leathertek referred me to AK leather in Pretoria. Oom Mac, I think mentioned Jakes (oorkant die poskantoor in Cullinan)
So are the forum guys able to point me into a good direction here? Is it horses for courses (seats for leather to one guy and the floor carpet/doors to another?
Kind regards
Marnus

Hi Marnus The guy I used is Emmanuel he is out here on the west rand 0746475043 he stripped and recovered my seats on the GQ in leather (think that was about R6500) and he re did the seats in my GU in leatherette (did not go for leather here as I have seat covers on) and I think that cost about R3500 he has also redone all the seat and panels on my boat as well as the carpets in it as well

Thanks Ian!
Can anybody tell me if there is any reason why I should not consider leather (apart from price). Does fabric have any clear advantages over leather?

Re: reupholstering a Patrol.
Marnus, I have black leather and it gets damn hot if left in Sun + it shows wear and tear quickly - especially if you have a button on your bum pocket - as I've discovered. But almost 8 years down the line, I'd choose it again.... just love the feel... kunsmatige leather apparently last longer and cleans easier....

Re: reupholstering a Patrol.
As JohnBoy stated the leather gets hot in the sun but it is also slippery. I've found myself sliding forward on steep downhills which is not ideal in such a situation Apart from that I still prefer the classy feel and smell of leather. It also cleans easily especially when you still have small kids - that ice cream just wipes offmarakasmalan wrote:Thanks Ian!

Mabe save some money and invest in a canvas cover set ? Is your seats broken or does foam just need some tlc?
