Plastic wheel arch trims - aaaargh!

Post by transnamib »

Hi everyone
Thanks for your help and support over the last year.
Now I am having problems with the plastic wheel arch trims on my year 2000 2.8 GR. The clips have weakened after having the trims on and off a couple of times (to rebuild the arches with galvanised steel) so the trims aren't tight any more and have filled up with water and crud from my three weeks on mountain trails. Also the plastic strips between the trims and the body flap about at more that 50 kph and cost over 500 Rand each!(I know because I lost one recently.) Nissan UK don't want to know about sourcing new clips. Since Patrols are still for sale in SA and probably last longer than they do here, I wondered if anyone knew where I might be able to source these things. The parts catalogue on Nissan4U describes the trims as "fender-overs" and quotes part numbers for the clips which I could give to a supplier. Can't find any scrap vehicles here at the moment either.
I really don't mind spending to maintain the truck mechanically but this sort of thing is just seriously annoying. A new set of trims is prohibitively expensive, even if still available so any help would be much appreciated.
Emails to Nissan SA have been ignored so far but I will keep trying.

Better option. I removed all the fender flares and std mud flaps and fitted 50 mm extrusion available at Pro Auto Rubber, and then made custom mudflaps with brackets running over the chassis. I will post some pics tonight.

This for a GQ,(My Fender flares and mudflaps are not for sale)

Hi Transnamib

If you can post a picture of the clip we might be able to get something here in SA. We will hide the clips in a biltong package for you.
