Diff oil - Shell Spirax S2A?

Post by Unkredible »

Hi All,
Is anyone using Shell Spirax S2A 80w90 in their diffs?
Spec sheet looks almost identical to the Castrol EPX but it's half the price...
Thanks

Ja it would be really nice to have some experts in their field compile a list of generic equivalents for the various fluids, including coolant. OEM Nissan stuff is not just a problem with price but also availability. If you run out and need an extra couple of litres you can't nip out and get it and finish the job, instead the car must sit while it's on backorder from the agents. Simple maintenance becomes a mission. For example I need to check something on my car but it would involve topping up so the job gets pushed to the bottom of the list

So Tinus,
Would any decent quality GL5 work then? I am sure Shell would put out a decent product?

What would the diff oil capacity be for the rear diff on a 4.2 SGL ? (with difflock)
Front as far as I can tell is about 5.4 l. I am assuming it would be less than the front diff?

Looks like the rear only takes 2.something liter. (spilled a bit so is not 100% sure).
Changed the gearbox and transfer case oils last year before river trip but for some reason not the diff oils... they were way overdue for a change.. :surprised:
