I would like to install front axle lockers on my 4.2 Patrol. Except for ARB, what other brands are available on market that does not cost the same price as the vehicle? Please assist me with info. Thank you

Hi Johan

There are alternatives, but I am not so sure about after market services, and their SA support.
One that had been referred to earlier on this forum is "Eaton E-Locker"
Apparently at least as good as ARB, with fewer moving parts and no risk of air leakage since it is magnetic.
I have no idea where to source these in SA though.

What I would do if front lockers was a priority right now, is to find out what the lockers of choice are on the Ozzie Patrol forum. http://nissanpatrol.com.au
There are plenty of Troll drivers there so their opinions on alternatives to ARB would be valuable.

Then find out about their installation and servicing capabilities in SA.

The cheapest option is an auto-locker. 4x4 Traction (one of the links Alex posted above) supply and fit the Lockright unit.

They are strong, but also have an impact on vehicle dynamics that some find unacceptable.

I have finally fitted a ARB Front locker on my Patrol. It works like a dream on rock obstacles...you sail over the rocks as if they are not there.

Hi Johan,

If i may ask, who did you go through and were you satisfied with the workmanship. I am very pedantic about workmanship, and my biggest fear is during reassembly as i simply dont trust anyone these days to reset matters to the exact specs as per factory..

Thoughts?

Russ...I went to 4x4 Megaworld in Paarden Eiland. Their work is of very high quality and the technician fitting locker knows his work. Don't use Summerset West branch...they farm the work out to some private company becuase they have now one that can fit lockers.

I got quotes from each and every supplier and also directly from suppliers overseas and they where all more expensive than the ARB Locker. That's why I went for it. The other more important thing to remember is your "Guarantee" ARB has got local S.A guarantee...and the rest of the lot...your own problem and your own loss.
