Keep us posted on how this diff change evolves. I'm tempted to get this GRX diff for my GQ, cause I want that difflock, but this rebuild sounds difficult, cause I'll be needing a compressor and wiring and switches etc.

Ross, sorry. I am not allowed private internat at work anymore, and also couldn't join Andre during workin hours.
However, just the fact that this is an H260 doesn't necesarily mean it won't fit. As far as I know they are effectively interchangeable as long ass the diff ratios are the same, which they should be as both cars run a 4.111:1 ratio as far as I know (it's fairly easy to test though). At worst it would be an adjustable panhard rod and different U-joint on the propshaft.
Andre, if it has the standard diff lock it works on vacuum not pressure, so you don't need a compressor. Just a switch, a solenoid and some pipework...

When you mention that the diff ratio is "fairly easy to test", do you have a way of being able to test the ratio without opening up the diff and counting the teeth?
I would be very interested to hear, because from "eye balling" the photo`s that have been emailed to me, it definitely looks as though if the ratio is right one could make a plan with the fitment.
@ Christo: thanks for posting the picture. That is the center part of the diff, so it definitely looks like the ring and pinion (the parts that I need) are re-used when the ARB locker is installed.

Ross, there are two ways to do it.
Whichever way, just take a piece of chalk or a permanent marker and make one mark each on the input flange and both the brake disks or drums corresponding to something on the axle, so that you can gauge the number of turns and exact amount everything has turned.
Now Turn the input shaft. If both output shafts turn the same amount (they should unless the brakes are dragging) then you can use option 1:
Turn the input shaft untill both side shafts have turned exactly one revolution, counting how many revolutions the input shaft has made.
If the output shafts do not turn equal amounts, return turn backwards and return everything to zero marks, then jam the output shaft that didn't turn, and turn the input untill the other output has made exactly two revolutions, counting the number of revolutions you have made on the input shaft.
Now of course, no matter which method you have used, the input shaft's marker will not align with it's startpoint.
Measure the diameter of the input drive flange, and measure around the circumference with a tape measure how far you have gone past the mark. Next multiply the diameter of the drive flange by Pi (3.1415927) to get the circumference. Divide the arc distance the mark has passed the start point by the circumference. Add the fraction from above to the number of whole turns for the diff ratio.

I don`t suppose that anyone on here who bought parts from Wally had a look at the rear axle assembly when they were at his spot?? From the photos it looks okay, but obviously the photos can`t show what the diff feels like when the input shaft is turned!!!

Ross... that Patrol was in a front end prang.... the back was basically 100%, as far as memory serves. But me thinks that diff has not moved in a good few years. I doubt that there is anything wrong with the diff, but might need a good oil change and cleanup.

You don`t remember from looking inside the vehicle whether there was any evidence of whether it was a manual or auto by any chance. If it was a manual, the diff will probably work for me, but an auto would be the wrong ratio. Wally didn`t seem to remember which it was, and its fairly critical to the potential viability.
Wally hasn`t responded to my email request to run through Peters posted procedure to check what the ratio actually is...I`ll call him over the weekend and hopefully I can twist his arm to do the exercise and provide me with the numbers, so I can run the calculation.
