Front Difflock

Post by Coltenator »

Guys
Two issues that maybe you can help with.

I have decided to have a front locker installed, options are:

Detroit TrueTrac R9000 +-
Lock Rite R6000 +-
ARB airlocker R 18000 +-

CHOICES,CHOICES
iI had two airlift bags installed in my rear coils, for towing the loaded explorer.
Did a trail, had them deflated to 0,5bar as per manf spec and destroyed one bag.
Why does this happen, have allready bought a new set,am just being carefull before i have them fitted.

Tinus has air helper springs installed, and we have done many trails without damaging them. Perhaps there was something wrong with your installation?

I have gone through the same anguish WRT a front locker. The lockrite and true-track are very appealing at that price, but I have heard lots of doubting Thomas theories about them, and have so far not been able to find somebody with one fitted to a similar car to mine so that I could compare.

ARB is certainly a good option, as you can switch it on or of when required, but personally I have decided to first concentrate on getting more flex out of the front suspension.

i have had the firestone air bags on mine and had minimal hassles on mine
have you had your suspension done ???
you need to fit a spacer to compensate for the extra 50mm but it comes standard from the suppliers
the main reason for failure on these things are ether a nip between coils from to hard or to soft or the pipes are to short
when your trol stretches its legs the pipes pull out just have a nice look see
i love my air carjackers not nice to drive up hill all the time !!!!!!! :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

I wish there was an OX locker that could fit the Patrol diff.

Quentin,

What lift have you got on your Troll ? If you have more than 50mm lift, bag will not help. Give me a call on 0836004023

That is Simex. Wish it was in ZA. The tyre is useless on tar, but nothing compares in the dirt and tar.

I would much rather have a selectable diff lock than an automatic one.

If I had to have an automatic front diff lock, there is no way that I would use it in conjunction with authubs. I would have to change to manual hubs, which adds to the cost of the auto locker option.

A front diff lock is nice for really extreme situations, but a Patrol can get through very extreme obstacles with only the standard rear diff lock... :woo:
