Hi all.

I picked up my MAC solenoid from PECS in Cape Town today. I read on the the aussie patrol forum that the exhaust port of the valve needs a filter. Anybody know where I can find such a filter? Or is it ok to just plug that port? I found a document on macvalves.com regarding the 45-series valves, and by the looks of it, we'd be using it in the DIVERTER configuration, in which case the exhaust port only needs to be plugged.

Also, anyone know where I can look in Cape Town for those brass hose nipples and clamps and the exhaust plug needed to connect up the valve? Jan from PECS showed me the connectors they stock, and it's the kind where the hose press-fits inside the connector, instead of over it. This would work well for rigid plastic hoses, but not so well for the flexible rubber hoses, I think.

Any :helpsign: and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Marco

Marco, do you know what thread is in the valve's holes? It should say on the box or paperwork, and it's probably either 1/4" or 1/8" NPT.

You probably can't just plug the hole, as that would prevent the system from operating. I am however surprised that PECS cannot supply you with a breather. Most such suppliers have little screw-in breathers that have elements made from little copper/brass balls pressed together (sintered) and rated at about 5 micron, which is more than adequate.

For the fittings, search for a gas supply shop, the type of place where the guys who install gas ovens get their supplies from.

Sorry, it you were up here I could tell you exactly where to go.

Hi Peter

I wasn't aware of the breather at all, so I didn't ask them about that. I always just assumed (a dangerous thing  ) from the documentation and the pictures in this thread that you plug the port completely.
I'll give PECS a call tomorrow to check if they supply the breather. The thread size is not on the box, but I was told it's 1/8 inch.
Thanks for your help  I can find a gas supply shop easily enough, I just had no idea where to start looking.

When Jules bought the MAC valve from PECS for his Troll, it came with a brass filter. Have a look at this picture:

The filter is the cone shaped brass object in the upper right port on the valve.

Gerrit, thanks.
I saw that pic and somehow the silencer looked like a solid plug to me. I don't know where I saw something similar that made me think it's a solid brass nut. Now that I've seen the real thing it seems obvious in the photo as well.
I called up PECS and they have them, but they had no stock in their CT branch. They did help me track down a place closer to me that stock the silencers and the hose tails, so I'm all set for solenoid surgery this weekend.

Do you use thread tape on the silencer and hose tails? They seem a little loose when screwed in.

 I can't quite remember, but I seem to think that they are tapered threads, so no. Perhaps Jules will remember.
