Car not turning right
A while ago I was in a parking garage with smooth floors. I turned right into a parking spot and while turning, I heard a loud clunk/bang. Since then the car does not turn to the right as sharp as it does to the left, if you know what I mean.
Any idea on what the problem might be and what to look for?

Re: Car not turning right
It was the Patrol. Do they have CV joints? All I can see on the front axles are those huge ball things that go into the wheels. Where would I look for the CV joints? It doesn't make any noises as it turns, it just doesn't want to turn as sharply as the left side...

Re: Car not turning right
When you say "sharp", do you mean it feels less stable when you turn? Did the bang come from the front or rear? Maybe it's the sway bar link? I had one of mine go bang a year or so back, it made a loud bang when it went. It makes the vehicle a little less stable when turning.

Re: Car not turning right
SRXy - The car is still stable when I turn. Let me explain it this way - where I normaly turn into a parking in one motion, I now have to reverse and do a two point turn to get in. When I do it on the left side, it goes in as per normal.

Re: Car not turning right
count how many turns your steering wheel has when turned to the left, now, centre it again and turn it to the right and see if they are the same (Ie: 2.5 turns either way etc etc) , If they not equal it could be the limiting screw perhaps. I'll have a look under mine and see possible causes, but clearly the wheels are not turning in as far as they do on the other side, we'll get to the bottom of this dont worry

Re: Car not turning right
And there's nothing that's getting in the way of the of the wheel when it's turning right? Have you jacked the car up and had someone turn the steering wheel while you look? Just a suggestion?Sias wrote:SRXy - The car is still stable when I turn. Re: Car not turning right
I tend to agree with SRXy. Something obstructs the moving part of the axle and limits its reach. A visual inspection will tell. An internal problem will most likely result in other symptoms as well such as unwanted noises.

Re: Car not turning right
If it is the Birfield joint and you lift the front, with the patrol in 4x4, and you turn the left wheel - the right wheel will not turn at all or not as smoothly as the left one
