4.8L spark plugs

Is there any preference on spark plugs for the 4.8l ?

I haven't searched the Oz forum yet as I know that we do not always get all the nice stuff here.

They take Platinum NGK PLFR5A-11's gapped at 1.1mm

I have not changed mine yet as it apparently requires removing part of the intake manifold :confused:

Thanks, that's right, need to remove half the inlet manifold, hopefully it's not be siliconed.

Just an update as I did my 75k service on Saturday.

The Patrol was fitted with LFR5A-11 (Normal plugs) as fitted by the agents on 60k km showing only slight wear. (Standard plugs should easily do 20k km's)

I wanted to replace the sparkplugs with the newer iridium plugs (LFR5AIX-11) which is good for 160k km but none currently available in country as NGK do not yet bring them in and they are not sure when they will according to Dieter Scherl from the NGK Technical Dept.

That leaves the platinum (PLFR5A-11) as the next best option but they are also quite costly at around R150/plug. The advantage is that they should last 80 to 100k km and it will not be necessary to remove the intake manifold too often.

did you check all you plugs and how easy is it to remove the manifold?
