Starter service
My '96 SGL Petrol starter has been giving some trouble with starting. I then approached Nissan only to be informed that the starter is a complete unit of which there is no stock. I have subsequently seen some posts on servicing of starters which leads me to believe that there is some or other kit available. Does anyone know ?

Re: Starter service
I don't think there is a kit as such but most of the wearing parts shiuld be available loose from spares shops. The problem is that they probably won't know which parts to give you unless you have a sample.
The easy answer is that there are small busenisses that specialize in refurbishing starters and alternators, just give it to one of them. Any good auto-electrician should be able to do it or know of somebody who can.

Re: Starter service
I recently went down this road. The parts were difficult to find and were too expensive and it turned out cheaper to just buy a new one. Around 2k from Diesel Electric. I still have my old starter and may rebuild it one day if I find economical parts but I'm not too optimistic. Probably cheap and easily obtainable for an auto-electrician but I'm not in the trade

Middag ek het my eie starter gediens jy kry die borsels by midas was R40.00 n stel.
