The Nissan OEM filter has a foam seal on one side and a rubber lip seal on the other. Now to install - which side up??? And why....

The folds go down.
Nissan does the filter in two varieties, one a dry paper filter, the other one is lightly oiled. If you drive on dirt, get the oiled one. That was the advice I got from the guy in the spares dept when I wanted a new one in Tsumeb. IIRC, both are priced the same.....

I fitted mine with the foam on the bottom and the rubber on top to seal onto the lid nicely, however I doubt it makes any real difference

To my mind the lip seal on the bottom makes sense. There is a water drain on the bottom of the filter holder. Lip seal is more likely to keep water on the outside of the filter than the foam...???

Rubber Lip seal = bottom
Foam seal = top
