Sorry for all the questions gentlemen, I got the Nissan Thermostat today bit its shorter than the one that I removed. I am not sure if the old one was a Nissan part or fong kong so not sure which is correct.

Would you guys please advise.

I have completely removed mine. Will this cause any major problems? If so where is best (cheapest) place to get a new one?

Nissan Patrol
Petrol 1998, 4.5 GRX

Not the best thing on a Patrol. I know the TD42 diesels are a little more water temp sensitive, but it will take a hell of a lot longer to get up to operating temp.

Not sure what the part number is for the petrol Patrol. Maybe someone on here can help with that info

Thanks! Yes I have also been having some regular overheating issues because of a leak somewhere - I'm sure - and the removal might have just accelerated the overheating issue...

I'd replace the rad cap first off with the correct temp cap, and definitively concider that it could be that the radiator is blocked up with the rusty bits and efficiency is down to nothing. I would do a good clean out of the whole cooling system first, maybe at a place like Silvertons and do the fresh antifreeze/coolant thing and see if it sorts it out, with a new cap of course.

Thanks for the response and advice! Do you suggest the replacement of the radiator cap because of age and wear and tear? I actually don't even know whether this is an original Patrol Radiator as it was replaced about 6 years ago?
I'll post a photo to get expert feedback.

The other solution you could try is Graham from G-Tech. He is in Valhalla though, but he works on MANY forum members Patrols here. The man is a GURU when it comes to petrol patrols ( well he owns 1... actually 2 now I think) and knows his stuff.
and Michael here is the diesel guru, so either one can help you out.

Hmmm... yeah pics will definitively help. but that radiator cap only needs to just not work 100% for the temps to go off their rocker. There is of course another potential fault. Your viscous fan or hub may not be working properly. I've replaced mine twice already, and fan blades. I have actually seen a fan blade that was fitted backwards. Actually it was with Graham ( G-Tech) who spotted the problem on someones car and rectified it in the bush while on a trail with the Nissan 4x4 Club years back
