4.8 Engine Sputter Rev Bounce at 2000 rpm
Hi Guys
I need advise on where to start looking, I have a 6 hour drive lying ahead of me and this strange phenomenon has crept into my beloved troll.
https://youtu.be/C_FTGfqX44A
Sequence is like this.
1) Cold start
2) Slowly idle out
3) Gently accelerate to 100 kmh
4) As engine touches 2000 rpm
5) it Starts sputtering, if I maintain a static hold on my accelerator it will continue to bounce. It is the engine that is sputtering, almost as if there isnt fuel coming through. (i have new filter in)
6) when I back off the accelerator and allow the revs drop & the accelerate again and then it’s fine,
7) Once it’s at operating temperature it’s pretty much gone.
Any clues where I should start looking
Thanks Karl

Re: 4.8 Engine Sputter Rev Bounce at 2000 rpm
Hi Karl,
I had a very similar issue last december...
We went down to Durban from JHB for a week.
The Patrol stood for the duration of the trip as we were walking distance from the beach.
The day we planned to return to JHB she was spluttering on starting issues & the rev bounce at 2000rpm.
We got back with no issue, but under extreme acceleration & restarting at fuel stops the problem resurfaced.
Turned out to be the MAF that needed replacing.

Strange coincidence, my Troll stood for 4-5 days in a nose-down position before this issue came about!hugejp wrote: ↑26 Dec 2017 10:44 Hi Karl,

Ill clean the MAF and test over next day or so, if no improvment then Ill buy a new MAF.
Btw what mileage does your troll have?
Thanks Karl

Yes.
It stung a bit... but afterwards I did feel the difference.

It was also extremely humid in Durbs.
With regards to a clean, MAF cleaner spray is available.

Re: 4.8 Engine Sputter Rev Bounce at 2000 rpm
I would recommend cleaning with an aerosol Maf cleaner or Electro Clean and not compressed air.... Those filaments are very thin, and I think compressed air may cause some issues.karldDanneberg wrote: ↑26 Dec 2017 12:07
