Hi all,

I am looking for options to do a complete engine change of my 1998 2.8 GR Diesel, TD42. Does anyone have suggestions on a good replacement model, and/or sources?

Cheers.

Hi Matthew,

Be patient, most of the fundi's are out of reach this weekend. I'm sure you'll get a reply by early next week.

For a TD42 you can pm Michael Steyn. The notification should reach him when he has signal on baboons

Very sorry to hear your car is still giving you issues.

I thought the 2.8 is the RD28?

Unfortunately, that engine was never available in the Patrol here in SA, so very few of us have any actual experience with this engine.

In terms of actually getting the engine running, the TD42 must be about the simplest engine available short of an old tractor. All it needs is a wire to open the fuel solenoid, an earth strap and a power lead for the starter.

On the other hand, I have no idea whether everything fits...

Thank Peter,

From what I understand it should be one of the most basic engines to repair or diagnose- I have the option of sending the head all the way to SA for full check up, and if there is an issue then I can get a reconditioned/new head back, but time is a factor here- being the tail end nowhere in Zambia its all a bit tricky when it comes to logisitics!

I will double check that, I think you are right RE RD28.

Cheers.
