Many thanks. Exploring all options at the moment- the head was pressure tested when the gasket was replaced, and no cracks found. When the radiator was flushed, the water started appearing in the oil- guess is that there was a crack being sealed, and has since been exposed, by some radiator repair. Will have them check all you have mentioned. Not an auto, so hopefully easier to address.Wilkie wrote:My experience on engines when oil and water are mixing is
1) when head gasket has blown between water jacket and oil gallery, but this normally only happens when engine has been overheating ..
2)oil cooler has cracked or blown o-rings
3)the o ring on the wet sleeve engine has has perished
4)if auto the radiator has gone
hope this helps..

Looks like things have escalated and there is an apparent crack somewhere on the block- hasnt been found, but when using the radiator sealant the water leak into the oil seemed to have stopped. Not sure how I feel about this. Basically, whether the mechanic is right or wrong, my fear of being stranded is real and the faith in the old girl has diminished
Looking to get an idea of alternative engines, and what sort of cost i am going to be looking at to replace the engine. New and second hand options, but new preferable if it is going to be done .

Is this a wet-liner engine (like the 4.2 diesel)? If so, it could just be a seal, rather than a crack?
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Hi Peter,
I am not sure? 2.8 diesel, UK spec. I have managed to drive the car back home, 160km, went well, but there is a fair amount of oil showing up in the water of the radiator again. The gasket is new, so not sure what the go is.
