How much work to put in a td42
So, I've lost a lot of confidence in my zd30 the last year or so to the point where she now sits mostly in the garage. I'm considering my option, two being a refresh and thorough go through of the zd30, or fit a td42. The other option is sell but I like the car... just lost confidence in motor.
So, how much work is it really to fit a td42? I assume it means new bell housing, cut off engine mounts, re weld, radiator... what about accelerator pedal, electrics? Has somebody done it? I've been quoted around R40k for a motor, so I doubt it will come in cheaper than zd30 "refresh". At this stage I'm leaning towards a zd30 refresh but just checking all options.

Why did you loose confidence in the zd30?

Re: How much work to put in a td42
Cracked a head (suspect I bought it that way). Had major water leak. Blew a turbo ((far, far away... had engine run away... not fun experience). Suspect another cracked head (probably due to driving home with said blown turbo). Spent about R40k in a 18months and ruined every holiday we have tried to go on... now have to do head again.
Family is tired of stressing about what's next...

Re: How much work to put in a td42
thats not lekker..
Pity a td42 is so expensive.
I dont have any knowledge or experience in rebuilding vehicles, but there might be other cheaper options available. (Although I personally would think that a td42 is first price - but I am biased )
quoted from here: (http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/sho ... nd-Gearbox)
"Td27: R20 000 plus
Rd28: R12000 plus
Qd32: R25000 plus
Td42: R37000 plus"
Or you can join the dark side, like Alex did....

Hi Dale
If I were you, between those two options, I would have gone for the 4.2.
Given the history, even with a fixed ZD30, it will require a lot of trouble free miles before you and your family will have confidence in the car again.

Dale
There are plenty u tube videos that shows the hole job
But in short very easy...radiator is the same . Mointings Mountings work belhousing bolts on , only 12 to pump needed .....glow plugs are there already.
Iam a big petrol head but loves my td42 ....
You need to look at turbo but there are plenty plans
Its also the only mod engine wise that makes your patrol woth more money. I have done 110000 km in my bakkie since rebuild and not a problem at all
